Adult ADHD & Autism Identification (Assessments)

At the Donegal Psychology Centre, we offer comprehensive identification (assessments) for neurodivergent profiles, including ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) and Autism, in adults aged 18 and over. Our goal is to provide a respectful, affirming experience that helps you better understand your brain, your preferences, and your needs - whether you're seeking formal identification or diagnosis, clarity, or support planning.

Who Is This Service For?

Our ADHD and Autism identification sessions are suitable for individuals 18+ who:

  • Have long suspected they may be neurodivergent

  • Are seeking formal identification to access accommodations or support

  • Want to better understand their focus, sensory needs, routines, communication style, or emotional regulation

  • May have been misdiagnosed or overlooked earlier in life

  • Are noticing challenges with work, study, relationships, food/eating, or day-to-day life that may be related to ADHD or Autism

Neurodiversity-Affirming Approach

We approach all our identifications with curiosity, care, and respect. We view ADHD and Autism as natural neurotypes, not deficits, and we aim to help you better understand your experience of the world without pathologising who you are.

The Identification Process

We aim to make the process thorough, collaborative, and transparent. Here’s what you can expect:

  1. Pre-Session Questionnaires
You’ll complete a series of questionnaires before your appointment. These help us gather background information about your life history, strengths, challenges, and current functioning.

  2. Identification Sessions (1 x 3-hour session or 2 x 1.5-hour sessions)
During the formal exploration of your neurotype, we will explore areas such as attention, executive function, social communication, sensory preferences, and emotional regulation. This process can take place during either:

    • 1 x 3-hour session, or

    • 2 x 1.5-hour sessions

  3. Collateral Information (Optional)
With your consent, we may speak to a family member or someone who knows you well. This helps us gain a fuller picture of your developmental and behavioural history.

  4. Comprehensive Report
You’ll receive a detailed written report that includes:

    • A review of your background and mental health

    • Functional capacity and day-to-day strengths and differences

    • How your traits align with the ADHD or Autistic neurotype

    • Practical recommendations for support, workplace/academic accommodations, and next steps

Note: If during the identification sessions, our clinician identifies another area that requires further exploration (e.g., addiction difficulties, experiences consistent with BiPolar Disorder), an additional session may be required to help un-pack this further to ensure that an accurate diagnosis is provided.

Online and In-Person Appointments

Sessions are available in-person at our centre in Dungloe, or remotely via video call platforms (e.g., Zoom) — whichever format feels most accessible and comfortable for you.
