Dr Tom Hannan
The Donegal Psychology Centre is located in Co. Donegal and led by Clinical Director and Chartered Psychologist, Dr Tom Hannan.
Tom has experience working with a wide range of individuals, including children, adolescents, young adults, and older adults. He brings a warm, compassionate, and understanding approach to therapy. During sessions, Tom uses techniques drawn from Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Enhanced CBT (CBT-E) for the treatment of eating disorders, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Motivational Interviewing (MI).
In addition to his clinical work, Tom has a strong research background and is a published author in the fields of health psychology and sport and exercise psychology. He is particularly interested in understanding and helping individuals modify their health behaviors, including diet, physical activity, and alcohol consumption.
Tom has also worked as a Lecturer and Research Fellow in the university sector in Australia, with experience also in government-funded community health campaigns focused on lifestyle health behavior change.
Tom is a Credentialed Eating Disorder Clinician with the Australia and New Zealand Academy for Eating Disorders (ANZAED) and works to support individuals with eating or weight management concerns, as well as pre- and post-bariatric surgery clients.
He is committed to providing neurodiversity-affirming, LGBTQIA+ inclusive, and client-centered care. Tom strongly recognises that not all ‘traditional’ forms of therapy are suited for minority group members, and so he collaboratively tailors his approach and treatment to suit the needs of his clients.
